WASHINGTON - Gallaudet University women's volleyball program is well represented on the 2020 United States of America Deaf Women's Volleyball roster as announced by USA Deaf Volleyball (USADVB).
The 15-member team features 10 players with ties to Gallaudet. Rising senior Adele Daniels (Austin, Texas) and rising junior Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) are the two current members of Gallaudet's women's volleyball program on the team while the others are alumni or former players. The team features three former Bison players, who earned North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Player of the Year honors, including Darriyan Thomas (2016, '17), Kali Frowick (2014) and Ann (Whited) Behm (2012). GU's other former players on Team USA's roster include Katelyn (Reese) Zernovoj, Ludmila Mounty-Weinstock, Sarah Tubert, Molly Perkins and Giuletta Maucere.
Team USA roster also includes Lauren McCutcheon, Kelly Kidd, Samanatha Hicks, Abby Garrity and Kaylie Beck.
The 2020 Team USA squad will be led by head coach Lynn Ray Boren along with assistant coaches Johnny Kessenich and Beau Lawler. Gallaudet assistant coaches Danielle Morris and CJ Upchurch will serve as team interpreter and team manager, respectively. The athletic trainer is Ilana Bell.
The U.S. Deaf Women's Volleyball National Team will compete at the 2020 World Deaf Volleyball Championships in Chianciano Terme, Italy, from July 2-11 and the 2021 Deaflympics (dates and location to be announced).
Three summers ago, Gallaudet was the site of the 2016 World Deaf Volleyball Championships and the sixth Pan American (PanAm) Deaf Volleyball regional qualifying tournament where Team USA won gold in both tournaments.
