LANCASTER, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's cross country team finished 8th overall at the Lancaster Bible College (LBC) Homecoming Invitational here Thursday evening. The Bison tallied 219 team points in the first of three trips to LBC, the site of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships, this year.
Lebanon Valley College won the team event with 20 team points as it took six of the top eight spots. LVC's Kate Mowrey won the 6K race in 25 minutes, 11 seconds, out of 79 runners representing 10 teams.
Senior Kristi Luna (Austin, Texas) finished in the Top 30 as she crossed the finish line in 30:38 to place 29th overall. Freshman Fatuma Ali (Tucson, Ariz.) was the next Bison to finish in 43rd place (32:59). A trio of Bison finished in a pack led by sophomore Lourdes Valenzuela (Sonora, Mexico) in 66th place (42:01), freshman Rudy Sewell (Ashland, Ky.) in 70th (46:33) and freshman Yudan Liu (Chengdu, China) in 72nd (47:29) to round out GU's top five runners.
- Junior Jamila Hubbard (Montezuma, Ga.) was 73rd (50:19)
- Freshman Ololade Olasanoye finished 79th (1:15:04)
- Six different NEAC schools ran in the race
The Bison won't have a long break before their next race as they lace up their shoes in two days to run in the Horney Harrier hosted by Shenandoah University at Kernstown Battlefield in Winchester, Va., on Saturday (Sept. 24) at 10 a.m.
