STEVENSON, Md. - The Gallaudet University women's cross country team opened their season on the road here Saturday in the scalding heat and finished ninth overall at the Shannon Hennretty Invitational hosted by Stevenson University.
The Bison were one of 10 teams that participated in the 6K invitational and racked up a team total of 246 points. Rowan University won the meet with 37 points followed by the host Mustangs (60 points) and Marymount (Va.) University (84 points) in third place.
Sophomore Kelly Winklbauer of Stevenson University was the top finisher out of 80 runners with a time of 25 minutes, 20.84 seconds.
Senior Kristi Luna (Austin, Texas) finished 51st overall and was the top finisher for the Bison as she crossed the finish line in 34:17.49. Junior Ivy Sahneyah (First Mesa, Ariz.) finished 57th overall (36:35.08) and freshman Fatuma Ali (Tuscon, Ariz.) finished 60th (38:19.60).
- Junior LaQuita Carroll (Spanish Fort, Ala.) was 70th (41:24.62)
- Sophomore Kristin Williams (Staten Island, N.Y.) was 77th (47:40.16) and the fifth Bison finisher to earn team points
- Freshman Yudan Liu (Chengdu, China) was 80th (53:08.59)
- Three Bison made their cross country debut
The Bison will head to Lancaster, Pa., to run in the Lancaster Bible College Homecoming Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 4 p.m. This will the first of three meets, including the NEAC championship for the Bison, in Lancaster. Although the course will undergo minor changes before the NEAC championship, the Bison will have the opportunity to see the basic layout of the championship course.
