FREDERICK, Md. - The Gallaudet University women's cross country team finished eighth out of 11 teams here Saturday at the Hood College Open held at Utica Park.
The Catholic University of America won the meet with 55 team points as the Cardinals edged out St. Mary's (Md.) College (71 points) and Franklin & Marshall University (86). Catholic senior Kiera Lyons won the 6K race in 23 minutes, 50.3 seconds.
Gallaudet senior Kristi Luna (Austin, Texas) was the first Bison to finish as she crossed the finish line in 35th place with a time of 27:55.1. Luna averaged 7:29.1 per mile. Freshman Taylor Nguyen (Ballwin, Mo.) was 62nd as she was just under two minutes behind Luna with a time of 29:51.6.
Junior Nicole Musey (Prince George, British Columbia) was the third Bison to finish in 68th (31:40.5) with senior Shellane McKitty (Bronx, N.Y.) right behind her in 69th (31:53.4). Sophomore Fatuma Ali (Tucson, Ariz.) was the fifth Bison to earn team points as she finished in 77th place (33:10.2).

Gallaudet is off next week as it prepares for the 2017 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) cross country championship set for Saturday, Oct. 28, in Morrisville, N.Y.
