GU women's team places 48th at 2017 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional

NEWVILLE, Pa. – The Gallaudet University women's cross country team finished in 48th place at the 2017 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional meet here on a cold Saturday at Big Spring High School and hosted by Dickinson College.

Johns Hopkins University won its 10th straight NCAA Mideast Regional as the Blue Jays scored 32 points and placed all seven runners in the Top 25 to earn all-region honors. Junior Ellie Clawson won the 6K race in 21 minutes, 33.5 seconds.

Gallaudet senior Kristi Luna (Austin, Texas) was the first Bison to finish in 267th place with a time of 28:24.4. Freshman Taylor Nguyen (Ballwin, Mo.) was over a minute behind Luna as she crossed the finish line in 289th place (29:47.2) while senior Shellane McKitty (Bronx, N.Y.) placed 297th (30:32.8).

Sophomore Fatuma Ali (Tucson, Ariz.) was the fourth Bison to finish as she crossed in 307th place (31:45.6) while senior Ivy Sahneyah (First Mesa, Ariz.) completed the Bison team scoring as she placed 314th (32:49.2).


  • Sophomore Jessalyn Wortham (Chandler, Ariz.) was the sixth Bison to finish as she finished 326th (39:11.0)
  • 60 teams were represented in the race
  • 49 teams finished in the final team standings
  • 351 runners were in the field

This concludes the 2017 season for the Gallaudet women's cross country program.
