GU women's cross country finish fourth at Towson Invitational

COCKEYSVILLE, Md. - The Gallaudet University women's cross country team finished fourth at the Towson Invitational here Friday afternoon at Oregon Ridge State Park. The Bison scored 105 team points in their season-opening meet with three other schools.

Towson University won the four-team meet with 19 team points and a total time of 1:22:03. The Tigers swept the first three spots and had seven runners finish in the top 11. Morgan State University was second with 50 points followed by McDaniel College in third (69 points).

Towson senior Abby Gauthier won the 4K race in 15 minutes, 56.84 seconds as the field featured 31 runners.

Freshman Sierra Pratt (Katy, Texas) placed 18th overall in her Bison debut with a time of 19:07.41.

GU's other six runners placed between 25th-31st. Sophomore Taylor Nguyen (Ballwin, Mo.) was the second Bison to cross the finish line as she clocked in at 23:30.69 in 25th place. Junior Fatuma Ali (Tucson, Ariz.) was 26th (24:46.50), freshman Hannah Wetzel (Fremont, Calif.) was 27th (26:35.66) and fellow freshman Maria Guzman Mejia (Bronx, N.Y.) was 28th (27:07.35) to round out Gallaudet's team score.

Sophomore Jessalyn Wortham (Chandler, Ariz.) finished 30th (30:43.43) while freshman Greyses Encarnacion (Tampa, Fla.) placed 31st (43:16.00).

Gallaudet will next run at the Charger Invitational hosted by Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. in Lancaster, Pa.
